Gog refers to a king. Magog refers to a place, land, or nation or an alliance of nations. The alliance of nations, Magog (descendants of Amalek), will be led by a king, Gog, who is not necessarily from Magog.
What will they do? That depends on us. Bad prophecy, like that of Gog and Magog, does not have to occur. It will only occur if its required to keep us on the right path. Good prophecy, like universal peace, is guaranteed.
The bad prophecy says that Gog and Magog will wage a climactic battle against the forces of evil, in the early stages of the Messianic Era. These evil forces (Gog and Magog) will presumptuously undertake to battle not only Israel but the Almighty Himself and will suffer an appropriate defeat:
I [God] have many messengers whom I can send into battle. But the war against Gog and Magog I shall wage Myself. Their destruction shall be complete.
Even so, if it occurs, for a while it will be a traumatic event with great trials and tribulations. This event is shrouded in mystery.
